With the release of new firmware V1.1.652, Magewell's Pro Convert decoders now support a choice of TCP or UDP transport when decoding RTSP/RTP streams. This blog explains how to configure the decoder's RTSP transport mode.
1. Log into the Web GUI of the decoder. Choose "Source" in the menu, then click "Add" in "SOURCE PRESETS" and select "RTSP" in the drop-down list.
2. When receiving RTSP streams, Magewell Pro Convert decoders can use TCP or UDP for the underlying RTP transport protocol. The transport mode can be selected with the "TCP First" switch.
When "TCP First" is turned on, the decoder preferentially uses RTP over TCP to pull the stream from the encoder

Magewell's Ultra Stream encoders make live streaming remarkably simple even for non-professional users, enabling them to record or stream high-quality video with one click using on-device buttons or an intuitive smartphone app.
The smartphone running the Ultra Stream app will use Wi-Fi connectivity to control the Ultra Stream encoder, but there are three architectures that can be used to connect the Ultra Stream unit to the smartphone (even without an existing Wi-Fi network):
- Ultra Stream unit connected to an existing network via wired Ethernet, with the smartphone connecting to the same network via Wi-Fi
- Ultra Stream unit and smartphone both connecting to the same existing network via Wi-Fi
- Smartphone connecting directly to the Ultra Stream unit using Access Point (AP) mode
This tutorial will explain how to connect the Ultra Stream

Magewell is kicking off 2021 with the launch of its new Ultra Encode family of universal live media encoders. Supporting multiple encoding formats – including H.264, H.265, and NDI®|HX – and a wide array of delivery protocols, the new hardware offers systems integrators, video professionals, and OEM partners a flexible and affordable encoding solution for applications ranging from live streaming and remote contribution to IP-based production and AV-over-IP.
“While our Ultra Stream encoders continue to be extremely popular for users with fairly straightforward live streaming needs, integrators and high-end production professionals may require advanced capabilities such as additional formats or protocols and higher bitrates,” said Nick Ma, CEO

The release of firmware version 1.1.170 for our Pro Convert NDI® encoders has added support for two TCP-based transport modes alongside our existing UDP (User Datagram Protocol) support. Users now can select between UDP (Unicast), UDP (Multicast), TCP (Uni-Connection) and TCP (Multi-Connection) transport modes depending on their needs. This blog explains how to configure this setting.
To select the transport mode, log into the Web GUI of the encoder and go to the NDI® tab in the top menu. From the drop-down menu to the right side of the Transport Mode field, select your preferred setting. The default setting is TCP (Multi-Connection). Once you have made your choice, click “Apply” at the bottom of the page.
