The Schneider 4x4" Double Classic Black Soft 1 glass filter provides diffusion that is heavier than Schneider's Black Frost effect. This additional diffusion negates the need for stacking filters. It is ideal for close-ups, and can be used to facilitate a seamless transition in the look and continuity from scene to scene.
It combines the features of the Schneider Classic Soft with a Black Frost 1/4. It will flare highlights, mute colors, and tone down contrast, while retaining rich blacks. This is a very useful combination of effects for 16mm and 35mm film, as well as for HD and standard video. These are primarily styling, or mood modifying filters.
In the normal range of exposure, Classic Soft filters impart only a closely confined, very subtle glow to highlights. If large amounts of overexposure exist in a scene, like a "blown" window, Classic Soft filters add a stylish glow that keep the scene's contrast under control, while adding a romantic look.
Note! Double Classic Black Soft filters are available in strengths of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1 and 2 - with 2 having the greatest effect
