Product Overview +
Overview of the AJA ADA4
The AJA ADA4 is a versatile 4-channel audio converter designed to handle both analog and digital audio signals within professional production environments. Manufactured by AJA Video Systems, it provides flexible configuration options, allowing users to operate it as an analog-to-digital converter, digital-to-analog converter, or a combination of both.
Bidirectional Audio Conversion
The device supports simultaneous A/D and D/A conversion across four channels. This enables efficient workflows where analog audio sources can be converted to digital formats while digital AES/EBU signals can be converted back to analog outputs at the same time.
Flexible Configuration Options
The ADA4 can be configured in multiple modes including 4-channel A/D, 4-channel D/A, 2-channel A/D with 2-channel D/A, or as an AES synchronizer. This flexibility allows it to adapt to a wide range of audio routing and conversion requirements in studio and field setups.
Synchronization and Clocking
The unit supports external synchronization via AES11, wordclock, tri-level sync, or color black reference. It also includes a passive looping reference input and a dedicated AES sync output, ensuring stable timing and synchronization across connected devices.
Audio Quality and Processing
With 24-bit audio conversion and support for 48 kHz and 96 kHz sample rates, the ADA4 ensures high-quality audio processing. It also includes sample rate conversion between 48 kHz and 96 kHz, enabling compatibility across different audio systems.
Control and Configuration
Configuration is handled via external DIP switches, allowing quick and clear adjustments to audio levels and channel routing directly on the device without requiring software.
Design and Deployment
The compact form factor makes it suitable for installation behind monitors, in racks, or on mobile production rigs. It includes a locking power connector to prevent accidental disconnection and supports universal power input for global use.
Use Cases
The ADA4 is commonly used in broadcast studios, post-production facilities, and live production environments where analog and digital audio systems must be integrated, synchronized, and converted reliably.
