Overview

The Blackmagic Design Audio Monitor 12G G3 is a compact 1RU professional audio monitoring solution designed for both conventional SDI and SMPTE ST 2110 IP broadcast environments. It combines integrated stereo speakers with independent subwoofers, precision audio metering and multiple professional audio and video interfaces.

The G3 model adds a 10GbE SMPTE ST 2110 IP input while retaining 12G-SDI connectivity for SD, HD and Ultra HD workflows. It also provides balanced XLR, RCA HiFi and AES/EBU audio inputs, plus an HDMI 2.0 video output for external picture monitoring.

Performance

The unit accepts SDI rates from 270Mb through 12G-SDI and automatically switches between SD, HD, 3G-SDI Level A/B, 6G-SDI and 12G-SDI. Supported video standards extend through Ultra HD 2160p60 and DCI 4K 60p. A reclocked SDI loop output is provided for passing the source downstream.

Audio monitoring includes 16 channels of embedded SDI audio, eight channels of HDMI embedded audio, two balanced analog XLR inputs, two RCA HiFi inputs and two-channel 110Ω AES/EBU through XLR. Blackmagic specifies 96 kHz, 24-bit audio sampling.

Applications

Audio Monitor 12G G3 is designed for broadcast control rooms, production studios, OB facilities, master control and SMPTE ST 2110 installations where operators need accurate audio monitoring without dedicating significant rack space.

Its 54-segment RGB audio metering system supports VU, PPM EBU, PPM BBC and Loudness modes. The front panel also provides source and channel selection, independent left/right audio selection, mute and volume controls, along with a 2.2-inch LCD showing the video input, format and selected audio source.

For IP workflows, the 10GbE interface supports SMPTE ST 2110-20 video, ST 2110-21 traffic shaping, ST 2110-30 PCM audio and ST 2110-40 ancillary data, together with PTP and NMOS IS-04/IS-05 support.
