Overview

The Blackmagic Design Teranex Mini HDMI to Optical 12G converts HDMI video to both professional 12G-SDI and SMPTE optical fiber. It is designed for transporting video and embedded audio over long fiber distances while also providing a conventional 12G-SDI output.

The unit uses an optional optical SFP module, allowing a compatible 3G, 6G or 12G optical module to be selected according to the installation. The optical SFP module is sold separately.

Performance

It provides one HDMI 2.0 Type A input supporting up to 2160p60, one 12G-SDI output and an optional 3G/6G/12G optical SFP output. The optical output automatically matches the SD, HD or 12G-SDI format of the HDMI input. Automatic switching between SD, HD, 2K and 4K is supported, along with SDI reclocking.

Supported formats extend from SD through HD and 2K to Ultra HD 2160p60, with DCI 4K support through 25p. The optical interface complies with SMPTE 297M for optical fiber SDI.

Applications

The Teranex Mini HDMI to Optical 12G is well suited to broadcast facilities, venues, studios and professional AV installations where HDMI video must be transported over long optical fiber runs. Its simultaneous 12G-SDI output also makes it practical for integrating the same HDMI source into conventional SDI infrastructure.

Professional audio embedding includes two channels of balanced analog audio and four channels of 110Ω balanced AES/EBU digital audio through XLR connectors. The right XLR can alternatively be configured for timecode input.
