Product Overview +
Intelligent Casing Architecture for High-Frequency Board Layouts
The Canare BCAK 12G-SDI Active BNC series delivers an advanced component-level connectivity solution, operating as a specialized integrated active hardware module engineered for direct digital transceiving, high-density hardware routing, and real-time cable equalization within 4K Ultra HD equipment backplanes. Standard passive board jacks require engineers to carefully tune long, complex circuit paths on multi-layer PCBs to prevent return loss at 12 GHz frequencies. The BCAK series completely bypasses this challenge by building the transceiver chip directly inside the metal shield of the connector casing. This smart design turns raw high-frequency RF data into clean, low-voltage digital signals right at the entry port, maximizing performance while freeing up valuable board space.
Pluggable Edge Connector System for Easy Field Maintenance
To help manufacturers streamline assembly lines and cut down on warranty repair costs, this series features a pluggable modular two-piece structure. The active main plug shell docks into a surface-mount card-edge socket (AKU series) that handles standard automated reflow soldering. If a port experiences high-voltage line spikes or physical field damage, technicians can simply remove the mechanical M2.6 locking screws and pull the active module straight out of its card slot. This lets you swap out the damaged port in seconds without risking heat damage to the main circuit board from hot-air desoldering tools.
Technical Integration Note: The SMT card edge receptacles (Models AKU-20LFYG and AKU-20SFYG) are sold separately and are required to interface these active components with your board logic. To secure the module against vibration, lock it down firmly onto your PCB chassis grounding pads using standard M2.6 machine screws.
Product Specifications & Architectural Variants
Active Module Configurations
The BCAK product family is split into specialized processing roles and physical orientations to match custom broadcast enclosure layouts:
- BCAK-TL (Right-Angle) / BCAK-TS (Straight) [Transmitter Type]: Features an integrated Cable Driver module that pumps out a clean, standardized $800\text{ mV}$ peak-to-peak output amplitude across your facility's distribution matrix.
- BCAK-RL (Right-Angle) / BCAK-RS (Straight) [Receiver Type]: Features an integrated Cable Equalizer module that can reconstruct weak, attenuated signals up to 100 meters over L-5.5CUHD core wiring.
- BCAK-BL (Right-Angle) / BCAK-BS (Straight) [Bidirectional Type]: An adaptable software-controlled transceiver module that can shift between driver and equalizer modes on the fly to support reconfigurable software-defined video equipment.
Companion SMT Card Edge Sockets
- AKU-20LFYG (Right-Angle Socket): Low-profile horizontal socket designed to support space-saving 16mm pitch spacings on dense 1U rack mount equipment panels.
- AKU-20SFYG (Straight Socket): Top-entry vertical socket layout designed to match the same mounting heights as legacy 3G-SDI active modules for quick hardware design upgrades.
