Product Overview +
The Essential Adapter for Tracking Cars and Crane Workflows
The cmotion Flight Head Adapter (SKU: K2.0016447) is a highly specialized, mission-critical interface unit designed for remote tracking vehicles, camera cranes, and stabilized heads. For years, camera departments struggled during chase-car shoots because the crane operator's physical console joystick required direct, hardwired control over the zoom axis. This adapter resolves that limitation. It converts the analog voltage output from Filmotechnic Flight Head control panels directly into a clean, frame-accurate digital LBUS protocol, allowing the focus puller's handset to serve as the wireless bridge between the crane deck and the camera lens.
Clear Division of Control on Set
Once rigged, the Flight Head Adapter automatically reallocates lens axes. The camera operator at the remote console gains instant, responsive zoom control through their integrated joystick, while the 1st AC retains total wireless command of focus and iris through their ARRI WCU-4 or cmotion hand unit. All data signals are packaged together and sent wirelessly to the active lens motors via the camera body (ALEXA Mini, Mini LF, or Plus) or a dedicated motor controller like the ARRI UMC-4 or cmotion cvolution camin.
Simple Cable Architecture & Setup
Operating the adapter requires only two key connection pipelines:
- Control Panel Link: A dedicated cmotion FHC-1 cable (K2.0016458) connects the adapter’s Lemo 6-pin port to the Filmotechnic Flight Head console's Lemo 14-pin port.
- Handset Link: The adapter’s Lemo 4-pin LBUS port connects to the wireless hand controller (using a standard LBUS-to-LCS cable K2.0007318 for the ARRI WCU-4, or LCB-1/LCB-7 cables for cmotion handsets).
Rugged, Low-Profile Construction
Constructed with an industrial-grade anodized aluminum frame, the Flight Head Adapter is engineered to perform reliably in extreme environments, withstanding operating temperatures from -20°C up to 50°C (-4°F to 122°F). With its built-in rosette connector and feather-light 150-gram profile, it integrates cleanly into remote operations, giving crews a robust connection interface that keeps both the remote operator and the focus puller working in absolute harmony.
