Product Overview +
The Datavideo ZEK-1 is the essential hardware bridge that transforms a standard camcorder or block camera into a fully automated, 3-axis robotic system. While the PTR-10 MARK II robotic head naturally handles Pan and Tilt, the ZEK-1 adds the "third dimension" by mechanically reading the lens's zoom position. This allows operators to save and recall complete framing presets—Pan, Tilt, and Zoom—with total mathematical accuracy.
Solving the "Free Running" Zoom Problem
Most manual or semi-servo lenses do not communicate their exact zoom position back to a robotic head. The ZEK-1 solves this by using a physical encoder wheel that sits snug against the camera's zoom ring. As the ring turns (either manually or via the camera's internal motor), the ZEK-1 detects the rotation and translates it into a value that Datavideo controllers (like the RMC-180 MARK II or RMC-300A) can understand and memorize.
Versatile Lens Adaptation
Different lenses use different gearing standards. The ZEK-1 ships with the industry-standard M0.8 gear pre-installed but includes an M0.6 gear for specific cameras like the Sony X200. For camcorders with smooth focus/zoom rings that lack teeth, the kit provides a Gear Ring Belt. This belt wraps around the lens to provide a gripped surface for the encoder to track, ensuring that almost any camera with a moving zoom ring can be automated.
Seamless Installation
The kit is designed for a "no-tool" feel once the mounting bar is in place. The metal bar ensures the encoder remains perfectly aligned with the lens, preventing "slipping" which could lead to inaccurate preset recalls. By connecting the 4-pin mini-DIN cable to the PTR-10/10T MARK II, the robotic head immediately begins receiving zoom coordinate data, effectively turning your favorite handheld camcorder into a high-end PTZ camera.
