Product Overview +

Introduction

The Mentor CX Changeover Unit is designed to ensure uninterrupted broadcast operations by providing seamless switching between two Mentor RG sync generators. It acts as a redundancy controller that maintains signal continuity in mission-critical environments such as live broadcasting and production facilities.

Purpose and Function

The primary function of the Mentor CX is to monitor two independent sync sources and automatically switch to a backup source if the primary one fails. This helps prevent signal loss and ensures consistent timing across broadcast systems.

Role in Broadcast Infrastructure

In professional broadcast environments, timing and synchronization are essential. The Mentor CX sits within the sync and reference chain, working alongside Mentor RG systems to maintain stable reference signals across video, audio, and timecode workflows.

Switching Capabilities

The unit supports three switching modes:

  • Automatic switching based on signal or system failure detection

  • Manual switching via front panel controls

  • GPI-triggered switching for external control systems

It is capable of handling multiple signal formats simultaneously, making it suitable for mixed-format broadcast setups.

Channel Capacity and Expansion

The base unit includes a set number of channels and can be expanded using optional modules. With expansion cards, the system can support up to 22 channels of mixed signal types including analog, digital video, audio, and timecode.

Monitoring and Control

The Mentor CX provides advanced monitoring through:

  • Front panel indicators showing sync and power status

  • Vector Web Browser for centralized system monitoring

  • SNMP support for remote network management

These tools allow operators to view real-time status of both primary and backup systems.

Integration with Mentor RG Systems

The unit is specifically designed to integrate with Mentor RG sync generators. It continuously monitors both units and ensures that one remains active while the other is on standby, enabling a fully redundant synchronization setup.
