Product Overview +

Overview

The Neumann KK 185 with KM A is a modular small-diaphragm condenser microphone system designed for applications requiring focused pickup and strong rejection of surrounding sound. Its hypercardioid capsule provides approximately 10 dB attenuation for sound arriving from the sides and rear, with minimum sensitivity occurring at approximately 120 degrees. Combined with the transformerless KM A analog output stage, it delivers clear transient response, low noise, high dynamic range, and excellent electromagnetic immunity.

Focused Hypercardioid Pickup

The KK 185 uses a pressure-gradient transducer with a hypercardioid directional pattern. Its tighter pickup angle provides greater isolation than a standard cardioid capsule, making it particularly effective for spot miking, instrument recording, broadcast production, and live environments where separation from nearby sources is important.

High SPL Performance

With the KM A output stage, the microphone handles sound pressure levels up to 142 dB at 0.5% THD. Activating the switchable 10 dB preattenuation increases maximum SPL handling to 152 dB, allowing clean capture of drums, percussion, brass, guitar amplifiers, and other powerful sources.

Modular KM A System

The capsule can be separated from the KM A output stage and positioned remotely using compatible Neumann extension cables and accessories over distances of up to 100 metres. The KM A stage operates from standard 48 V phantom power and uses a transformerless analog output circuit.

Professional Recording Applications

The KK 185 with KM A is suitable for instrument spot miking, orchestral sections, percussion, acoustic instruments, speech, broadcast, stage production, and other applications requiring precise directional control and high rejection of unwanted sound.
