Product Overview +

What the RG 6 Trishield Cable Does

The Percon RG 6 CATV Trishield is a 75 ohm coaxial cable used for private and public TV network signals. It also works as an aerial feed for terrestrial digital TV and satellite systems, and it handles analogue baseband video such as CCTV. It is a common choice for mainstream distribution, residential blocks and hotel head-end work where reliable, well-screened cabling is needed for many outlets.

Conductor and Dielectric Design

The centre conductor is 18 AWG solid copper with a cross-section of 0.785 mm squared. The insulation is a foam and solid FHDPE sandwich, which keeps the impedance stable and the loss low over the frequency range used in TV distribution. Stable impedance is important because mismatches can cause ghosting, reflections and reduced picture quality on the receiving screens.

Three Shield Layers Explained

The trishield uses an aluminium-PET-aluminium foil, a braided aluminium layer and a second aluminium-PET foil. These three shield layers give strong screening against interference ingress, which matters where the cable runs alongside power cables or other noisy services in buildings and distribution routes. The layered shield is a key reason for choosing this cable. Because the screen is continuous over the whole length, the trishield also helps keep the cable performing when it runs close to other services.

Installation and Connector Fitting

The cable has a nominal diameter of 7 mm and a PTC jacket for fixed installation in buildings. Use F-type or BNC connectors rated for the 7 mm outer diameter, and fit them to the manufacturer procedure. Keep bend radii within the manufacturer limits to avoid impedance changes that would affect picture quality on the receiving screens across the network.

Choosing RG 6 for Your Project

Choose the RG 6 Trishield for standard TV distribution, aerial and baseband video runs across buildings and sites. For greater distances or thicker conductors, the larger RG 11 CATV Trishield is the alternative and suits longer feeder runs. Lengths and connectors are quoted per project, so include the route and connector type in the enquiry to receive an accurate offer.
