Compact Composite Video Extender

Not every link needs sixteen channels; often a single analog feed has to reach another building. The Thor F-1V-TxRx is a small transmitter and receiver kit that carries one baseband composite video signal over fiber. It serves CCTV, videoconferencing, broadcast, cable TV and digital signage installations, and it can also carry black burst, so remote equipment can be genlocked to a central reference across the same optical path.

Digital Processing and Supported Formats

The kit samples video at 10 MHz and processes it entirely in the digital domain, which means no alignment or level trimming is needed at installation. NTSC, PAL and SECAM are all accepted, with frequency response above 10 MHz at -3 dB and flat within 0.2 dB to 5 MHz. Phase differential is 0.5, differential gain 0.5 percent, Y/C delay under 10 ns and system gain unity within 3 percent.

Connectors, Fiber Type and Distance

Video input and output are BNC at 75 ohm impedance, matching camera, monitor and router tails without adapters. The optical connector depends on the model and may be ST/PC, SC/PC or FC/PC, running over single-mode or multimode fiber. Distance is likewise model specific, with 20, 40, 60 and 80 km builds published. LED indicators on each unit report power and signal status for quick checks during commissioning.

Power, Climate and Installation

Each unit is powered from 5 V DC and draws under 10 W, so the pair can be fed from small adapters at either end or from a backed-up DC supply in a camera cabinet. Operating temperature runs from 0 to +70 degrees C with humidity from 0 to 95 percent, which covers roadside enclosures and plant rooms. Boxed weight is around 1.5 lb, making wall or shelf mounting straightforward.

Model Selection and Distances

F-1V-TX/RX carries video only over 20 km, while F-1VD-TX/RX adds a return RS485 data channel for camera control. Longer links are ordered as F-1V-TX/RX-XX or F-1VD-TX/RX-XX, where XX is 40, 80 or 120 km. Single remote cameras, monitor feeds, signage displays and timing reference distribution between buildings are the typical uses, and the data option should be settled before the code is fixed.
