One HD Camera over Fiber

A single camera at a gate, a perimeter fence or an outbuilding is often the hardest one to connect, because coaxial cable runs out of reach long before the location does. The Thor F-1HD-TVI-TxRx extends one HD-TVI camera signal over fiber using a matched transmitter and receiver. Analog HD cameras stay affordable, and the fiber link removes both the distance limit and the interference problems of a long coaxial tail.

Uncompressed Video and Control Return

Video is carried uncompressed at up to 1080p, so the recorder sees the camera's own picture with no encoding stage between them. An optional reverse data channel carries RS485, RS422 or RS232 back toward the camera for pan, tilt and zoom control, running at 1200 to 9600 bit/s in half-duplex, full-duplex or RS-232 mode. No electronic or optical adjustment is required, and LED indicators report status during commissioning.

Connections, Levels and Fiber Reach

The transmitter takes a BNC input at 75 ohm with a level above 500 mVp-p, and the receiver returns 1 Vp-p on BNC into the same impedance, matching standard camera and recorder tails. The optical port is ST/PC on single-mode fiber, with 20 km as the standard reach and options from 0 to 80 km. LOS, PWR and VIDEO indicators show whether optics, power or the camera feed itself is at fault.

Size, Power and Mounting

Each unit measures about 6 5/8 inches wide, 4.5 inches deep and 1.25 inches high, with mounting measurements of 6.25 inches across and 2.5 inches deep, so it fits a small camera cabinet or a shelf beside the recorder. Power is 5 V DC with consumption of 5 W or less, which is easy to back up locally. Thor quotes MTBF above 100,000 hours for the pair.

Thor lists F-1HD-TVI-TX/RX as the transmitter and receiver kit rated for 20 km over single-mode fiber, and F-1HD-1D-TVI-TX/RX as the version that adds a return RS485 path. Gates, perimeters, parking areas, roadways and outbuildings are the usual positions for a single remote camera. Decide early whether PTZ control is needed, since the data option is fixed by the part number rather than enabled later.
