Product Overview +
One or Two Voice Lines
Not every remote position needs a bank of circuits. The F-2TEL carries one or two independent analog telephone lines point to point over fiber, which is enough for a gatehouse, a pump station, a studio lobby or an equipment shelter sitting far from the PBX. The voice path stays optical end to end, so it is immune to induced electrical noise and very difficult to intercept.
Line Configuration and Management
Each two-wire POTS port is 600 ohm with 16-bit linear coding and is set by DIP switch to FXO for a PBX trunk or FXS for a telephone, fax or dial-up modem. FXS mode provides a 48 VDC battery source and accepts DTMF or pulse dialing. The transmitter attaches to the FXS device and the receiver to the FXO trunk. Terminal, web and SNMP management are available for monitoring.
Connectors, Reach and Wavelengths
Phone connections use RJ-11 and the fiber side uses ST/PC. Multimode reaches 2 km, single-mode versions cover 15, 30, 50, 80 and 120 km, and WDM single-strand versions cover 20, 40, 60 and 80 km. Wavelengths are 1310 nm on multimode, 1310 or 1550 nm on single-mode, and 1310 Tx with 1550 Rx or the reverse on WDM. Ringing is a sine wave selectable at 20, 25, 30 or 50 Hz.
Power and Operating Limits
A 12 V DC input feeds each unit with consumption around 5 W, so both ends can run from a small adapter or from existing DC distribution inside a cabinet. Operating temperature is 0 to 50 degrees C with storage up to 70 degrees C. MTBF is listed as 125,000 hours at 25 degrees C, and approvals include CE, FCC, LVD and RoHS. Each unit weighs about 1.6 lb.
Kit Versions and Typical Sites
The standard F-2TEL ships as a matched transmitter and receiver kit. Longer routes use F-2TEL-Tx/RX-40, F-2TEL-Tx/Rx-80 or F-2TEL-Tx/Rx120 for 40, 80 and 120 km single-mode links. Campuses, pipelines, rail corridors, marine terminals and secure buildings apply them to remote extensions, intercoms and emergency phones. StreamPort Media will match the kit to your fiber type, connector and route length before you order.
