Product Overview +
Analog and Digital on One Fiber
Broadcast sites rarely carry only one kind of signal, and running separate fiber pairs for each is wasteful. The Thor F-1V2A1ASI-TX/RX multiplexes one composite video channel, two analog audio channels and a high-speed serial data channel for DVB-ASI or SD-SDI onto a single strand. A legacy analog feed and a compressed transport stream can therefore travel together between a studio, a headend and a transmitter site on one optical route.
Sampling, Standards and Data Channel
Video is sampled at 10 bits and transmitted digitally, supporting NTSC, PAL and SECAM with bandwidth from 10 Hz to 6.5 MHz and 67 dB SNR. Differential phase stays below 1 degree and differential gain below 0.5 percent. The serial path carries one channel of DVB-ASI, and the same interface also accepts SD-SDI built to SMPTE 259M or SMPTE 310M, so compressed and uncompressed digital feeds are both handled.
Connectors, Audio Options and Optics
Composite video arrives at 1 Vp-p on a 75 ohm input, and the DVB-ASI channel uses its own BNC connector. Audio connects through 600 ohm terminal blocks, with two channels as standard and four available as an option. Optical output power is -5 dBm with receiver sensitivity of -30 dBm. Wavelength again sets reach: 1310 nm serves 40 km links, while 1550 nm, CWDM and DWDM variants stretch from 80 km to 120 km.
Rack Build, Power and Conditions
Transmitter and receiver each occupy a 480 mm by 225 mm by 44 mm chassis, which is one rack unit in a 19-inch frame. Mains input is handled by an internal auto-sensing supply covering 110 and 240 V, removing any voltage selector from the installation checklist. The units operate from 0 to 50 degrees C with storage from -20 to 70 degrees C, suiting studio racks, transmitter huts and headend rooms with ordinary ventilation.
Versions for Each Fiber Type
Thor publishes F-1V2A1ASI-Tx-MM and F-1V2A1ASI-Rx-MM for multimode runs of about 2 km, plus F-1V2A1ASI-Tx-40 and F-1V2A1ASI-Rx-40 for 40 km single-mode routes. Transmitter and receiver are ordered as separate line items, so a link needs one of each. Studio to transmitter links, studio to headend feeds and contribution circuits that mix legacy analog with digital broadcast signals are where this multiplexer usually ends up.
