Gigabit Over A Single Strand

When only one strand is available between two points, a conventional duplex converter cannot be used at all. The F-GET-TRS-A kit carries 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet over a single fiber in both directions using wavelength division multiplexing. Remote switches, cameras and access points can then be connected without pulling new cable, which matters most where duct space or dark fiber is scarce.

Wavelength Split and Switching

The A side transmits at 1310 nm and the B side at 1550 nm, which is how both directions share one strand. Forwarding is store and forward with a 1K MAC address table, 14,880 pps at 10 Mbps and 148,800 pps at the higher rate, giving a 2000 Mbps full-duplex transfer rate. Switch mode and pure converter mode are both available under IEEE 802.3 and 802.3u.

Connectors, Distance and Budget

The optical interface is one SC simplex connector for 1000BaseFX, and the copper interface is a single RJ45 port. Typical reach is 20 km on single-mode and 3000 feet on multimode, with 40 and 80 km options. Minimum transmit power is -8 dBm at 20 km, sensitivity ranges from -18 dBm to -30 dBm by version, and link budgets are 10, 15, 27 and 35 dB.

Power, PoE+ and Conditions

Each converter runs from DC 5 V at 1.6 A and draws about 5 W, and the link is supplied with both units and their power supplies. PoE+ models add power on the RJ45 port so a camera or access point can be fed from the converter itself. Operating temperature is 0 to 50 degrees C, storage -20 to 60 degrees C, and humidity 5 to 90 percent non-condensing.

Ordering Sides and Options

A complete link contains both sides, listed as F-GET-TRS-A and F-GET-TRS-B in 20, 40, 80 and 120 km versions. Where powered devices sit at the far end, order F-GET-TRS-POE+A with F-GET-TRS-POE+B instead. A 14-slot chassis, F-Chassis-14, suits dense installations in a central room.
