Product Overview +
Fast Ethernet Beyond Copper Limits
Copper Ethernet stops at 100 m, which rules it out for building-to-building links and remote cameras. The F-FE-TR-SM is a compact media converter in a metal case that takes a 10/100 Mbps connection on RJ45 and puts it onto single-mode fiber. The device is transparent to the network above it, so no addressing or configuration changes are needed at either end of the link.
Switching Modes and Diagnostics
Forwarding uses store and forward with a 1K MAC address table, 14,880 pps at 10 Mbps and 148,800 pps at the higher rate, giving 200 Mbps full-duplex throughput. Switch mode and pure converter mode are both supported, along with link alarm. LED diagnostics report power, full duplex, copper speed and link, and fiber link activity. The unit complies with IEEE 802.3 10BaseT and 802.3u 100BaseTX/FX.
Ports, Optics and Link Budget
The copper side is a single RJ45 10/100BaseT port and the fiber side is one duplex SC/PC connector running 100BaseFX. Wavelength is 850 nm for multimode or 1310, 1550 nm or CWDM on single-mode, depending on model. Typical distance is 20 km on single-mode and 3000 feet on multimode, with 40 and 80 km options. Minimum transmit power is -7 dBm on the 40 km version, and sensitivity reaches -30 dBm.
Size, Power and Conditions
The converter measures 71 x 97 x 26 mm and weighs 0.6 kg, small enough to mount behind a patch panel or inside a camera cabinet. Power is DC 5 V at 1.6 A with 5 W consumption. Operating temperature is 0 to 50 degrees C, storage -20 to 60 degrees C, and humidity 5 to 90 percent non-condensing. Approvals are FCC Class A and CE, with an 11.0 dB link budget.
Deployment and Rack Options
CCTV networks, campus LAN extensions, industrial control and broadcast facility IT are the common uses. Where many links terminate in one room, a 14-slot chassis listed as F-Chassis-14 houses multiple converters neatly. This listing covers the single-mode unit, with longer 40 and 80 km optics and a multimode variant offered as alternatives. Tell StreamPort Media the fiber type and run length to get the right version.
