Product Overview +
Sixteen Phone Lines Per Link
The F-16TEL moves sixteen separate analog telephone lines between two sites across a single fiber optic cable. Facilities with long copper runs face noise, ground loops and exposure to tampering, and replacing those pairs with an optical path removes all three. Because the voice circuits travel as light, the link is extremely difficult to bug, which matters on industrial sites, government campuses and utility networks where voice traffic is treated as sensitive. Units work as a transmitter and receiver pair.
FXO and FXS Line Handling
Each two-wire POTS port presents 600 ohm impedance with 16-bit linear coding, and a DIP switch sets it as FXO for a PBX trunk or FXS for a telephone set, fax machine or dial-up modem. FXS mode supplies a 48 VDC battery feed and accepts DTMF or dial pulse signaling. Ringing uses a sine waveform at 20, 25, 30 or 50 Hz, and FXO to FXS calls reproduce the cadence detected at the FXO end.
Optical and Copper Connections
Telephone connections use standard RJ-11 jacks, while the optical side terminates in ST/PC connectors. Single-mode runs are rated at 20, 40, 80 and 120 km, and multimode covers up to roughly 3000 feet. Wavelength choices include 1310 nm on multimode, 1310 or 1550 nm on single-mode, and WDM pairs of 1310 Tx with 1550 Rx or the reverse for single-strand working. Front panel LEDs report power, fiber link, phone activity and test status.
Power, Environment and Reliability
The unit runs directly from AC 100-240 V at 50/60 Hz and draws about 5 W, so no separate DC supply has to be arranged at either end of the link. Operating temperature spans 0 to 50 degrees C, with storage rated from 0 to 70 degrees C. MTBF is quoted at 125,000 hours at 25 degrees C, and approvals cover CE, FCC, LVD and RoHS. Shipping weight is around 11.5 lb.
Choosing the Right Distance Kit
Plants, airports, pipelines, broadcast campuses and secure facilities use these links for remote PBX extensions, gate phones and emergency circuits. The base F-16TEL ships as a transmitter and receiver kit for single-mode spans of around 20 km. For longer routes, order F-16TEL-40Tx/RX, F-16TEL-80-Tx/RX or F-16TEL-120-Tx/RX to match 40, 80 and 120 km. StreamPort Media can confirm which version suits your fiber plant and connector type.
