Product Overview +
High-Density Composite Video Transport
Many capable security cameras still output standard composite video, and replacing them simply to gain distance is hard to justify. The Thor F-16VD-TxRx carries sixteen composite channels plus serial control data over one fiber using 1RU rack-mount transmitter and receiver units. The installed camera base keeps working while its reach extends well past what individual coaxial runs allow, which makes it a practical upgrade path rather than a replacement project.
Quantization, Bandwidth and Data Modes
Video is quantized at 10 bits with 8.0 MHz bandwidth, roughly 1 percent differential gain, about 1 degree differential phase and SNR above 67 dB. Serial control can be RS-232, RS-485 or RS-422, and Manchester and Biphase formats are also handled, operating in full-duplex or half-duplex. Optional audio channels on some models provide 20 Hz to 20 kHz bandwidth per channel at 24-bit quantization, with SNR above 75 dB and THD under 0.1 percent.
Inputs, Formats and Connectors
The transmitter accepts 16 independent CVBS inputs on 75 ohm BNC connectors, in PAL, NTSC or SECAM, and the receiver returns the same sixteen feeds to the monitoring equipment. Because the control channel rides the same fiber, no parallel data cable is needed between the sites. Thor quotes a data error rate better than one in a billion, which keeps PTZ commands reliable even on long routes with several patch points.
Rack Units, Weight and Mounting
Both ends are 1RU, 19-inch rack-mount chassis, each weighing about 9.5 lb, so they install in a standard camera control room cabinet or headend frame without shelves or adapters. Boxed dimensions are 534 by 280 by 153 mm, which is useful to know when planning shipping and storage for a multi-site rollout. Allow rear clearance for sixteen BNC tails plus the fiber patch at each end of the link.
Base Model and Custom Builds
The base code is F-16VD-TX/RX, carrying 16 videos with data over 20 km of single-mode fiber or about 3000 feet of multimode, while F-16V-TxRx is the video-only version. Custom builds follow F-16V-XX-YY-TX/RX-ZZZ, adding 2 to 32 audio channels, a chosen data format and an optical distance. CCTV control rooms, transport monitoring, campuses and industrial sites are the usual applications for this channel density.
