Sixteen HD Analog Cameras over Fiber

Analog HD cameras remain cheaper than many IP equivalents, but coaxial cable limits how far they can sit from the recorder. The Thor F-16HD-TVI-TxRx sends sixteen such camera signals over a single fiber, handling HD-TVI, HD-CVI and AHD at 720p and 1080p. Uncompressed Transport and Return Data

Video travels uncompressed, so there is no encoder latency between the camera and the monitoring wall. Thor's comparison data notes no transmission delay and rates HD-TVI as reliable over coaxial runs of around 500 m before fiber becomes necessary. A reverse data channel accompanies the video, operating at 1200 to 9600 bit/s in half-duplex, full-duplex or RS-232 mode, which carries PTZ control back toward the cameras on the same link.

Connections, Levels and Optical Reach

The transmitter presents 16 BNC inputs at 75 ohm with input level above 500 mVp-p, and the receiver 16 BNC outputs at 1 Vp-p into the same impedance, so existing coaxial tails at both ends are reused unchanged. The optical interface is ST/PC on single-mode fiber with a standard reach of 20 km, and options available anywhere from 0 to 80 km depending on the route between the camera field and the control room.

Power, Indicators and Reliability

Each unit runs from 5 V DC and consumes 5 W or less, so a pair can be powered from a small adapter or a backed-up DC supply in a camera cabinet. Front indicators cover LOS, PWR and VIDEO, giving an immediate read on whether a fault lies in the optics, the power feed or an individual camera. Thor quotes MTBF above 100,000 hours for the hardware.
