Features & Specifications
Product Overview +
Mid-Span Amplification At 1550 nm
The F-EDFA-18 lifts optical signals in the 1550 nm band to a constant +18 dBm, enough to overcome the loss of a long span or a deep split. Amplification happens inside erbium-doped fiber, so the signal is never converted to electrical form, and the amplifier stays indifferent to protocol, bit rate and whether the content being carried is digital or analog.
Rated Output and Stability
Output is specified at +18 dBm within 0.75 dB, with a 6 dB adjustment range so the level can be set to match the fiber plant downstream. Inputs from -10 to +10 dBm are accepted and +3 dBm is typical. The noise figure is 6.3 dB at 0 dBm input, polarization dependent loss 0.3 dB, polarization dependent gain 0.4 dB and polarization mode dispersion 0.5 ps.
Band Coverage and Connections
The operating window runs from 1540 to 1563 nm, covering ITU DWDM grid channels, and up to eight multiplexed channels can be amplified through the single output port. Input to output isolation is 30 dB, with 55 dB echo loss and -30 dBm pump leakage. An RJ-45 port carries SNMP for network management, and an RS-232 port provides direct serial access on site.
Rack Unit, Supply and Climate
The amplifier occupies one rack unit at 19 x 14.5 x 1.75 inches. It accepts 90 to 265 VAC, -48 VDC or +24 VDC input at roughly 50 W, so it can share a DC plant with transmission equipment or run on mains in a headend. Working temperature is -5 to 65 degrees C, storage -40 to 80 degrees C, and humidity 5 to 95 percent.
Where This Level Fits
CATV and RF over fiber distribution, satellite L-band transport, DWDM networks and long-haul video links are the usual applications for a constant-output amplifier. SC/APC connectors must be used, with a PC to SC/APC jumper where the plant is flat polished. This version is supplied against a quotation, so share your span loss and channel count with StreamPort Media for confirmation.
