Ethernet and Serial Together

Remote equipment often needs both a network connection and a serial control path, which normally means two cables. The F-2GET-RS-A/B carries two Gigabit Ethernet ports plus RS-232 and RS-485 traffic over a single strand of fiber between two points. One fiber then serves PTZ cameras, PLCs, routers, switchers and sensors at the far site, cutting cable count and simplifying duct work on long runs.

Bi-Directional Point to Point Operation

The link works point to point, bi-directional and full duplex. Serial data passes transparently with baud rates up to 520 kbps, and the unit detects the baud rate of the attached device automatically, so no configuration step is required during commissioning. Code bit rate is typically 0 to 1 Mbps with a bit error rate below ten to the minus ninth, and the serial protocol handled is asynchronous.

Ports, Signals and Optics

Serial wiring lands on a copper terminal block. RS-232 uses IN, OUT and GND; four-wire RS-485 uses T+, T-, R+, R- and GND; two-wire RS-485 uses D+, D- and GND. RS-422 with T+, T-, R+, R- and GND is a special order. The fiber port is SC/PC simplex on single-mode, with a dual-fiber SFP version available, and standard distance is 20 km with 40, 80 and 120 km options.

Protection, Power and Temperature

Interfaces carry 1500 W surge suppression and 15 kV ESD protection, which matters where serial cable runs outdoors or between buildings on separate grounds. Power input accepts anything from 12 to 52 V DC and consumption is only 2.68 W. The environmental range is -30 to +75 degrees C at 0 to 95 percent humidity without condensation, and the product is RoHS compliant. LEDs show PWR, TxD and RxD.

Ordering the A and B Pair

Because transmission runs over one simplex fiber, a working system needs both halves: F-2GET-RS-A and F-2GET-RS-B, normally supplied together as F-2GET-RS-A/B. Other optical distances of 40, 80 and 120 km are listed as variants.
