Product Overview +
Higher Output For Long Spans
Where a route is long or a distribution network splits many ways, a higher launch level is the simplest fix. The F-EDFA-20 provides a constant +20 dBm output in the 1550 nm band, applying gain optically within erbium-doped fiber. The amplifier treats every signal in the band alike, whatever its protocol or data rate, and supports analog as well as digital optical transmission.
Output Rating and Control Range
Rated output is +20 dBm within 0.75 dB with a 6 dB adjustment range, and the unit accepts inputs from -10 to +10 dBm, typically +3 dBm. The noise figure is 6.3 dB at 0 dBm input. Polarization dependent loss is 0.3 dB, polarization dependent gain 0.4 dB and polarization mode dispersion 0.5 ps, keeping added impairment small on analog payloads.
Wavelengths, Ports and Isolation
The operating band is 1540 to 1563 nm and there is a single optical output port able to carry up to eight multiplexed DWDM channels on the ITU grid. Input to output isolation is 30 dB, echo loss 55 dB and pump power leakage -30 dBm. Management is available through an RJ-45 SNMP interface, with RS-232 for serial communication to a local terminal.
Supply, Size and Temperature
Power options are 90 to 265 VAC, -48 VDC and +24 VDC at around 50 W consumption, so the amplifier suits headend, teleport and telecom plant alike. Its 19 x 14.5 x 1.75 inch body takes one rack unit. Working temperature is -5 to 65 degrees C, storage -40 to 80 degrees C, and operating relative humidity 5 to 95 percent.
Applications and Connector Requirements
Typical deployments include CATV and RF over fiber distribution, satellite L-band fiber links, DWDM transport and long-haul video. Angle-polished SC/APC connectors are required on this amplifier, and where existing plant uses flat SC, ST or FC/PC, a PC to SC/APC jumper should be inserted. StreamPort Media can confirm whether this +20 dBm version matches your measured loss.
