Product Overview +
Four Composite Channels over Fiber
The Thor F-4VD-TxRx moves four composite video signals and return control data across a single fiber as a matched transmitter and receiver kit. Many security cameras still produce standard composite video, and this kit extends their working life by adding range that coaxial cable cannot provide. Interference and signal loss that build up on long copper runs disappear, so distant cameras look the same as local ones on the monitor wall.
Quantization, Performance and Control
Video is digitized with 10-bit quantization at 8.0 MHz bandwidth, with about 1 percent differential gain, roughly 1 degree differential phase and SNR above 67 dB. The return path is unidirectional RS485 by default on the F-4VD-TX/RX, with RS232 or RS422 available as a special order, operating in full-duplex or half-duplex. Error rate is quoted better than one in a billion, so pan, tilt and zoom commands arrive intact.
Fiber Types, Reach and Audio
The kit works over single-mode fiber for 20 km or multimode fiber for about 3000 feet, which covers both inter-building and in-campus routes. Audio support is model dependent and the base model does not carry analog audio; where a version does, each channel offers 20 Hz to 20 kHz bandwidth at 24-bit quantization with SNR above 75 dB and THD under 0.1 percent. Video connections are standard BNC at each end.
Power, Weight and Mounting
Power is 5 V DC at 1 A, and Thor includes the supplies with the kit so both ends arrive ready to install. Shipped weight is about 2.4 lb in a carton of 350 by 254 by 58 mm, small enough for a camera cabinet shelf or a wall bracket rather than a rack. Keep the data terminals reachable, since the RS485 return path is usually commissioned after the video is proven.
Model Selection and Distances
F-4VD-TX/RX provides four CVBS videos with return RS485 data over 20 km, while F-4V-TX/RX is the video-only build. Longer reach versions are ordered as F-4VD-TX/RX-XX or F-4V-TX/RX-XX, where XX is 40, 80 or 120 km. Analog CCTV upgrades, perimeter and parking surveillance, traffic monitoring and campus security networks are the usual applications for a four-channel kit of this kind.
