Product Overview +
Four Streams On One Link
Operators moving several programs between facilities quickly run short of fiber. The F-4ASI carries four DVB-ASI or SD-SDI signals between two sites on a single strand, replacing four separate converters and four fiber pairs with one transmitter and one receiver. Headends, hubs, studios and transmitter sites are the usual endpoints for this kind of consolidation work.
Multiplexed Conversion and Rates
Each copper input is converted from its digital transport stream to an optical carrier, multiplexed with the others onto the fiber, and separated again at the receiver. Rates from 0.5 Mbps to 622 Mbps are supported, covering SMPTE 295M, SMPTE 310M, SMPTE 305, MPEG-2 and 540 Mbps HDTV applications. LED indicators show power and optical signal detect, so a lost input is easy to spot.
Inputs, Optics and Distance
Copper inputs are 75 ohm BNC on RG-59, and the optical port is ST/PC as standard with SC/APC or SC/PC optional on 9/125 micron single-mode fiber. Reach extends to 120 km on single-mode or about 2000 feet on multimode. CWDM and DWDM optics are available where the ASI payload shares a strand with other wavelengths on a dense route.
Rack Format and Compliance
The unit measures 480 x 225 x 44 mm, fitting one rack unit in a 19-inch frame, and uses an internal 110/240 V auto-sensing power supply. Operating temperature is 0 to 50 degrees C with storage from -20 to 70 degrees C. Regulatory approvals include FCC Part 15 Class A, CE, UL, CUL and TUV, and no external adapters are needed behind the rack.
Kit and Long-Haul Codes
The F-4ASI ships as a transmitter and receiver kit for standard reach. Longer routes use F-4ASI-Tx-40 with F-4ASI-Rx-40 for 40 km, and F-4ASI-Tx-80 for 80 km single-mode spans. Multi-program headend links, IPTV distribution and regional contribution networks are typical applications. StreamPort Media can size the link and confirm which transmitter and receiver codes to order together.
