Product Overview +
Entry-Level RF over Fiber
Short links and small split counts do not need a high-power laser, and paying for one is wasted budget. The Thor F-RF-1310-TX-4mW converts any RF signal within its band into an optical signal for single-mode fiber, carrying all channels at once so analog and digital television lineups move between buildings without separate equipment per channel. Thor lists the covered band as 45 to 1000 MHz.
DFB Laser, Linearity and AGC
The transmitter uses a 1310 nm DFB laser producing 4 mW, which Thor also states as +6 dBm, with high linearity that keeps distortion low for analog and digital carriers alike. Automatic gain control holds RF performance steady as input levels drift. Line width is under 1 MHz FWHM, extinction ratio above 20 dB and equivalent noise intensity below -160 dB/Hz, with CNR above 50 dB over 10 km, CTB below -63 dB and CSO below -57 dB.
Connections and In-Band Flatness
RF arrives on a single 75 ohm Type-F connector at an AGC-managed level of 11 to 29 dBmV, with flatness within 0.75 dB from 45 to 862 MHz and optical return loss above 55 dB. SBC restraint is above 17 dBm. The unit is compatible with RFoG systems, so it can serve an RF over glass design as well as a conventional point-to-point link between a headend and a remote building.
Rack Space, Weight and Conditions
The chassis is 19 by 10 by 1.75 inches, a single rack unit, and the unit weighs 2.5 kg, so a pair of transmitters and a receiver still leave room in a small headend frame. Operating temperature is 0 to 45 degrees C, which means a ventilated equipment room rather than a roadside cabinet. Plan the optical patching so the SC/APC port is reachable without disturbing neighboring RF cabling.
Where the 4 mW Fits
A 4 mW output suits shorter links and smaller split counts, such as feeding a few buildings on a campus or a hotel site from one headend. Higher power options are F-RF-1310-TX-8mW, F-RF-1310-TX-16mW and F-RF-1310-TX-32mW, with the F-RF-TX-MN-2mW mini unit below them and F-RF-1550-TX-8mW for 1550 nm systems. Use SC/APC connectors on the optical port when the link is built.
