Product Overview +
Four Lines Across One Cable
Where a remote building needs several phones rather than one, the F-4TEL carries four independent analog telephone lines between two locations over fiber. It removes long multi-pair copper runs along with the crosstalk, ground potential differences and tapping risk they bring. Phones, fax machines and modems can then sit well away from the PBX while still behaving like local extensions on the switch.
Port Modes and Remote Management
Every two-wire POTS port can be switched to FXO for a PBX trunk or FXS for a telephone set, fax or modem using a DIP switch, with 600 ohm impedance and 16-bit linear coding in both modes. FXS supplies a 48 VDC battery and supports DTMF or dial pulse. The transmitter faces the FXS side and the receiver the FXO side. Terminal, web and SNMP access cover configuration and monitoring.
Interfaces and Optical Reach
RJ-11 jacks serve the telephone lines and ST/PC connectors serve the fiber. Multimode links run to 2 km, single-mode options cover 15, 30, 50, 80 and 120 km, and WDM single-strand versions reach 20 to 80 km. Wavelengths are 1310 nm on multimode, 1310 or 1550 nm on single-mode, and paired 1310 and 1550 nm on WDM. Status LEDs indicate power, fiber link, phone activity and test mode.
Power Input and Environment
Both ends take a 12 V DC input and draw roughly 5 W, which keeps them easy to back up from a small UPS or site battery. Operating temperature is 0 to 50 degrees C and storage is rated to 70 degrees C. Published MTBF is 125,000 hours at 25 degrees C. Certifications cover CE, FCC, LVD and RoHS, and each unit weighs about 1.6 lb.
Selecting a Kit by Range
The F-4TEL kit arrives as a transmitter and receiver pair. For extended routes, F-4TEL-Tx/RX-40, F-4TEL-Tx/Rx-80 and F-4TEL-Tx/Rx120 cover 40, 80 and 120 km on single-mode fiber. Mines, refineries, airports, universities and broadcast sites use the system to place several extensions on one strand. StreamPort Media can confirm the right kit once the fiber type and span are known.
