Four Video Feeds over Fiber
Sites with several analog cameras or program sources at one remote location need all of those feeds, and their audio, back at a control point. The Thor F-4V8A-TxRx-RM carries four composite video channels and eight analog audio channels over a single fiber as a matched transmitter and receiver pair. One optical strand takes the place of a dozen copper runs, and brings none of the hum, loss or interference that long coaxial bundles collect.
Sampling, Bandwidth and Capacity
Video inputs are sampled at 10 bits and transmitted digitally, supporting NTSC, PAL and SECAM. Bandwidth runs from 10 Hz to 6.5 MHz with 67 dB SNR, differential phase under 1 degree and differential gain under 0.5 percent, so color and timing survive the trip intact. Audio capacity is eight channels as standard with 16 available as an option, which leaves room to add program or intercom feeds without replacing the link hardware.
Connections, Optical Power and Reach
Composite video enters at 1 Vp-p on 75 ohm connections, and the audio channels terminate on 600 ohm terminal blocks. The transmitter launches at -5 dBm and the receiver is specified at -30 dBm sensitivity, which sets the available loss budget for splices and patch panels. Wavelength choice drives distance: 1310 nm for 40 km, with 1550 nm, CWDM and DWDM builds reaching from 80 km to 120 km on single-mode fiber.
Rack Space, Power and Climate
Transmitter and receiver each fit a 480 mm by 225 mm by 44 mm chassis, which is one rack unit in a standard 19-inch frame. Mains power is handled internally with auto-sensing across 110 and 240 V, so no external adapter or voltage switch is involved. The equipment runs from 0 to 50 degrees C and is stored between -20 and 70 degrees C, with operating humidity beginning at 10 percent.
Ordering by Fiber and Distance
Thor lists F-4V8A-Tx-MM and F-4V8A-Rx-MM for multimode links of roughly 2 km, and F-4V8A-Tx-40 with F-4V8A-Rx-40 for 40 km single-mode routes, with transmitter and receiver ordered separately. CCTV networks, campus and stadium video links, traffic monitoring and broadcast facilities built around composite equipment are the usual deployments. Decide the audio channel count and fiber type first, because both are fixed by the part number chosen.
