Product Overview +
Eight Voice Circuits Per Strand
Linking a remote building that needs eight phones usually means a multi-pair copper cable and all of its drawbacks. The F-8TEL replaces that run with a point-to-point fiber system carrying eight independent analog telephone lines between two sites. The optical path ignores electrical interference, induced surges and ground potential differences, and it resists tapping, which suits plants, substations and secure campuses.
DIP Switch Line Configuration
Each two-wire POTS port is set with a DIP switch as FXO for a PBX trunk or FXS for a telephone, fax machine or dial-up modem. Both modes present 600 ohm impedance with 16-bit linear coding, and FXS provides a 48 VDC battery feed with DTMF or dial pulse support. Ring frequency is selectable at 20, 25, 30 or 50 Hz, and FXO to FXS calls reproduce the detected cadence.
Connectors, Fiber Types and Distance
Telephone ports use RJ-11 jacks and the optical interface uses ST/PC connectors. Single-mode spans of 20, 40, 80 and 120 km are listed, while multimode covers up to about 3000 feet. Wavelength options are 1310 nm on multimode, 1310 or 1550 nm on single-mode, and WDM pairs of 1310 Tx with 1550 Rx or the reverse for working over one strand. LEDs show power, fiber link, phone activity and test.
Powering and Siting the Units
Each unit takes 12 V DC, and a 12 VDC 1 A power supply is included, with consumption around 5 W. Operating temperature is 0 to 50 degrees C and storage is rated from 0 to 70 degrees C, so an unconditioned cabinet is usually acceptable. MTBF is 125,000 hours at 25 degrees C. CE, FCC, LVD and RoHS approvals apply, and shipping weight is about 2.5 lb.
Distance Versions and Deployment
A base F-8TEL kit covers single-mode routes of roughly 20 km with transmitter and receiver included. Longer links use F-8TEL-40Tx/RX, F-8TEL-80-Tx/RX or F-8TEL-120-Tx/RX for 40, 80 and 120 km. Utilities, transport operators, industrial sites and broadcast campuses apply them to PBX extensions, gate phones and emergency circuits. StreamPort Media can verify the version against your optical budget and connector type.
