Product Overview +
Eight Composite Channels on Fiber
The Thor F-8VD-TxRx sends eight composite video channels over one fiber with return RS485 data for camera control. Security and broadcast users who still depend on composite equipment can extend camera reach well past what coaxial cable supports, without the picture degradation and interference that come with very long copper runs. A single strand carries the whole group, which also simplifies what has to be pulled between buildings.
Encoding, Bandwidth and Data Path
Video is encoded at 10 bits with 8.0 MHz bandwidth, around 1 percent differential gain, about 1 degree differential phase and SNR above 67 dB. The control interface is RS-485, running in full-duplex or half-duplex with a quoted error rate better than one in a billion. Optional audio on some models offers 20 Hz to 20 kHz per channel at 24-bit quantization, with SNR above 75 dB and THD under 0.1 percent.
Inputs, Formats and Fiber Reach
The transmitter accepts eight independent CVBS inputs on 75 ohm BNC connectors in PAL, NTSC or SECAM, and the receiver restores the same eight feeds for the monitoring equipment. The standard unit reaches 20 km on single-mode fiber, extendable to 120 km with the longer builds, or about 3000 feet over multimode. No per-channel alignment is needed, so adding cameras later is a matter of patching rather than reconfiguration.
Size, Weight and Installation
The kit ships at about 2.8 lb in a carton of 350 by 254 by 58 mm, so each end is a compact desktop or shelf unit rather than a rack chassis. That suits camera cabinets and small control rooms where rack space is not available. Leave room behind each unit for eight coaxial tails, the fiber patch and the data terminals, and keep the indicators visible for fault checks.
Model Selection and Applications
F-8VD-TX/RX carries forward CVBS video with return RS485 data over 20 km, and F-8V-TX/RX is the video-only version. Longer versions are ordered as F-8VD-TX/RX-XX or F-8V-TX/RX-XX, where XX is 40, 80 or 120 km. CCTV control rooms, campuses, transport corridors, industrial sites and broadcast facilities using composite sources are the typical applications for an eight-channel link of this type.
