Eight HD Cameras over Fiber

Grouping eight cameras at one remote position is common on industrial sites and highways, and returning all of them on coax is not. The Thor F-8HD-TVI-TxRx carries eight independent analog HD video channels over a single fiber, supporting HD-TVI and HD-CVI along with the AHD-H, AHD-M and AHD-L variants at 720p and 1080p. One strand brings the whole cluster back to the control room.

Uncompressed Video and Camera Control

The eight channels are transported uncompressed, so the recorder receives each camera's own signal with no encoding stage in between. A reverse RS485 data channel, with RS422 and RS232 as options, allows operators to control the cameras from the receiving end at 1200 to 9600 bit/s in half-duplex, full-duplex or RS-232 mode. Installation requires no electronic or optical adjustment, which keeps commissioning of a large cluster quick.

Interfaces, Levels and Optical Distance

The transmitter carries eight BNC inputs at 75 ohm with levels above 500 mVp-p, and the receiver eight BNC outputs at 1 Vp-p into the same impedance. The optical interface is ST/PC on single-mode fiber with 20 km standard, options from 0 to 80 km, and about 2000 feet over multimode. LOS, PWR and VIDEO indicators report optical, power and video status without needing a monitor at the camera end.

Power Supply and Reliability

Each unit takes 5 V DC and consumes 5 W or less, so both ends can run from small adapters or a backed-up DC supply in a field cabinet. MTBF is quoted above 100,000 hours for the hardware, which suits unattended roadside and perimeter positions where a site visit is expensive. Normal cabinet ventilation is sufficient, and no fans or forced cooling have to be designed into the enclosure.

F-8HD-TVI-TX/RX is the eight-channel kit over one fiber, and F-8HD-TVI-1D-TX/RX adds the RS485 return data channel for PTZ control. Thor also references H-8HD-TVI-TX/RX naming for the same set. Multi-camera remote sites, industrial facilities, ports, highways and large campuses moving to analog HD cameras are the usual deployments, and the control option should be confirmed before the code is fixed.
