Product Overview +
Mid-Power CATV Optical Transmitter
Between a short in-campus hop and a city-wide network sits the majority of real installations, and those need a middle option. The Thor F-RF-1310-TX-8mW converts incoming coaxial RF directly into optical RF at 1310 nm so every channel shares one fiber. Thor lists the transmitter for the 45 to 870 MHz band, covering analog and digital television RF distribution over single-mode fiber from a headend to one or more sites.
Laser Output and Link Figures
A sensor-feedback-controlled laser provides 8 mW of optical output, which suits medium-length links or moderate optical splitting. Line width is under 1 MHz FWHM, extinction ratio above 20 dB and equivalent noise intensity below -160 dB/Hz. Link performance is quoted at CNR above 50 dB over 10 km of fiber, CTB below -63 dB, CSO below -57 dB and SBC restraint above 17 dBm, with full lineups carried without per-channel processing.
RF Input, Flatness and Optics
RF input is a single 75 ohm Type-F connector at an AGC-managed level of 11 to 29 dBmV, so the transmitter tolerates normal variation in combiner output. Flatness is within 0.75 dB from 45 to 862 MHz and optical return loss is above 55 dB. Thor stresses that the optical port should be connected with SC/APC angle-polished connectors; fiber terminated in flat PC connectors needs a PC to SC/APC jumper before launch.
Chassis, Weight and Operating Range
The transmitter fits a 19 by 10 by 1.75 inch rack chassis and weighs 2.5 kg, so it mounts in a standard headend frame alongside modulators and combiners. Operating temperature runs from 0 to 45 degrees C, which places it in a ventilated or cooled equipment room. Allow access to the front RF and optical connections, and keep patch leads clear of the chassis vents in a fully populated rack.
Related Models and Pairing
Other transmitters in the family are F-RF-TX-MN-2mW as a mini unit, F-RF-1310-TX-4mW, F-RF-1310-TX-16mW and F-RF-1310-TX-32mW at 1310 nm, plus F-RF-1550-TX-8mW at 1550 nm. Pair this transmitter with Thor optical receivers or nodes at each site so the RF is restored where it is needed. Hotels, campuses and operator headends feeding nearby buildings are the common applications.
