Product Overview +

Rack-Mount Eight-Channel Fiber Multiplexer

At eight video channels and sixteen audio channels, copper cabling stops being realistic between buildings. The Thor F-8V16A-TxRx-RM pushes that whole payload down one fiber strand using rack-mount transmitter and receiver units. Consolidating the link also removes ground loops between structures and the interference that long coaxial bundles pick up, so picture and sound quality stay consistent over routes copper could not serve reliably at all.

Digital Sampling and Field Expansion

Each video input is sampled at 10 bits and sent digitally, with NTSC, PAL and SECAM all supported. Video bandwidth spans 10 Hz to 6.5 MHz, SNR is 67 dB, and differential phase and gain stay under 1 degree and 0.5 percent. The platform can be expanded in the field to 16 video and 32 audio channels, so a site can begin at eight channels and grow without a new transport design.

Interfaces, Optics and Distance

Video connections are 1 Vp-p at 75 ohms and the sixteen audio channels land on 600 ohm terminal blocks, which keeps the rear panel workable at this density. Optical output power is -5 dBm with -30 dBm receiver sensitivity. Distance follows wavelength: 1310 nm covers 40 km, while 1550 nm, CWDM and DWDM options extend the link from 80 km to 120 km, enough for inter-city as well as campus routes.

Chassis, Power and Environment

Both ends use a 480 mm by 225 mm by 44 mm enclosure, a single 19-inch rack unit, which is modest for the channel count being carried. Power is internal and auto-senses 110 or 240 V mains. Operating temperature is 0 to 50 degrees C with storage from -20 to 70 degrees C, so standard equipment room ventilation is sufficient and no special cooling needs to be designed around the units.

Transmitter and Receiver Part Numbers

Thor lists F-8V16A-Tx and F-8V16A-Rx for 20 km single-mode links, and F-8V16A-Tx-40 with F-8V16A-Rx-40 for 40 km routes, each ordered as its own line item. CCTV backbones, stadiums and arenas, transport monitoring, campus distribution and broadcast facilities still routing analog composite signals are the typical homes for this density. Confirm the route length before choosing between the 20 km and 40 km codes.
