Video, Audio and Control Together

Sending analog video and audio over copper stops being practical beyond about a hundred feet, and control wiring adds another cable to the same route. The Thor F-1V2A-1D-TxRx combines composite video, two analog audio channels and RS485 serial data on one fiber. Cameras, players and other analog sources can sit well away from the control point while operators still send commands back to the remote device.

Sampling, Bandwidth and Data Rate

Audio is sampled at 48 kHz with 24-bit resolution, giving 10 Hz to 24.5 kHz bandwidth, SNR better than 79 dB and THD at 1 kHz of 1 percent. Video bandwidth reaches 10 MHz and the system also supports tri-level reference signals. The RS485 path runs in the reverse direction, from receiver to transmitter, so a single strand carries program material one way and control the other.

Connectors, Impedance and Optics

Video uses a 75 ohm BNC connector and accepts NTSC, PAL or SECAM, while audio and RS485 data terminate on screw terminal blocks. Audio impedance is 600 ohm unbalanced with levels up to 2 Vp-p around a 0 dBm nominal. The optical connector is ST/PC as standard, at 1310 nm, with 1550 nm or CWDM available by request; other connector types can also be specified when a site standardizes on something else.

Power, Size and Operating Range

Each unit runs from 12 V DC with the power supply included, drawing about 3 W from an adapter rated 90 to 240 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz. The chassis measures roughly 7 by 6.5 by 1 inch and weighs about 1 lb, so it sits easily on a shelf or in a camera cabinet. Operating temperature spans -20 to +75 degrees C, and MTBF is quoted above 100,000 hours.

Ordering follows F-XXV-YYA-1D-TX/RX-ZZ, covering video count, audio count and distance. Thor lists F-1V2A-1D-TxRx, F-2V4A-1D-TxRx, F-4V8A-1D-TxRx, F-8V16A-1D-TxRx and F-16V32A-1D-TxRx, each including reverse RS485. The default reach is 20 km on single-mode fiber or 2000 feet on multimode, with point-to-point versions up to 120 km. CCTV links and broadcast feeds that mix video, audio and control are the usual applications.
