Product Overview +

Outdoor Fiber Receiver for CATV

Not every drop point has an equipment room, and villas, compounds and rural buildings often have nothing more than an external wall. The Thor F-Node is an optical receiver in a clam shell weather-resistant enclosure that converts CATV RF carried over single-mode fiber back to coaxial RF outdoors. It supports QAM, ATSC, DVB-T and ISDB-T signals and acts as a low-cost endpoint fed from a Thor RF fiber transmitter.

Detection, AGC and Link Quality

A high-response photodetector with optical automatic gain control receives across 1100 to 1600 nm, covering both the 1310 and 1550 nm bands, at input power from -9 to +2 dBm with return loss above 45 dB. Performance is specified at C/N of 51 dB or better with -2 dBm input, C/CTB of 65 dB and C/CSO of 60 dB, so the recovered RF is clean enough to feed a building's distribution network directly.

RF Output, Band and Adjustment

The RF side covers 45 to 1000 MHz with in-band flatness within 0.75 dB, rated output of 108 dBuV, which is +48 dBmV per port, and a maximum of 114 dBuV. Output impedance is 75 ohm, with return loss of 16 dB from 45 to 550 MHz and 14 dB from 550 to 1000 MHz. Electronic equalization covers 0 to 10 dB and attenuation 0 to 20 dBuV. The optical connector is SC/APC on single-mode fiber only.

Outdoor Build, Power and Return

The weatherproof clam shell housing is intended for external mounting at the drop, so no cabinet or indoor space is needed. Supply voltage is AC 150 to 265 V or AC 35 to 90 V depending on version, and operating temperature spans -40 to 60 degrees C, which covers hot rooftops and cold exposed walls alike. A return path section is available at 1310 nm plus or minus 10 nm, with 1 to 5 dBm output and a 5 to 65 MHz range.

Output Versions and Applications

Thor lists F-Node-02 with dual RF outputs and F-Node-04 with four outputs, both covering 45 to 1000 MHz in the outdoor enclosure. Feeding CATV to individual buildings, villas, campus blocks, compounds and rural drops is the typical use, with each output serving a separate riser or splitter leg. Choose the four-output version where the drop serves several units, since outputs cannot be added later.
