Product Overview +

Contact Closures Carried Optically

Tally lights, alarm panels and interlocks all depend on simple contact closures, which copper carries badly over distance and poorly in electrically noisy plants. The Thor F-2CC-TxRx converts dry contact, relay, GPIO and alarm signals into optical form, sends them over fiber and reproduces the closure at the far end. It also gives electrical isolation between buildings, which matters when earth potentials differ across a site.

Direction, Immunity and Channel Count

The converter is available in one-way and bidirectional forms, so status can travel in a single direction or commands and acknowledgements can pass both ways over one fiber. Because the link is optical throughout, it is immune to EMI and RFI from drives, switchgear and radio transmitters. Channel counts run from 2 up to 16 in the standard range, with the 16-channel one-way model also able to handle TTL signals.

Fiber Interface, Reach and Connections

The optical interface is ST/PC, running over single-mode fiber for 20 km or multimode fiber for about 3000 feet, with optics up to 80 km available on request. Contacts land on the unit's own terminals at each end, so field wiring stays short and local to the equipment being monitored or driven. Kits ship as matched transmitter and receiver pairs, which removes any pairing or addressing step at commissioning.

Power, Climate and Reliability

Power comes from an adapter accepting 90 to 240 V AC, with consumption under 3 W per unit, so a pair can be backed up by a very small UPS. Operating temperature spans -20 to +75 degrees C and storage reaches -40 to +85 degrees C, with humidity to 95 percent non-condensing. MTBF is quoted above 100,000 hours. Units weigh from about 1.6 lb, rising with channel count.

Kit Versions and Applications

One-way kits are F-2CC-TX/RX, F-4CC-TX/RX, F-8CC-TX/RX and F-16CC-TX/RX, and bidirectional kits F-2CC-B-TX/RX, F-4CC-B-TX/RX and F-8CC-B-TX/RX, with other builds following F-XXCC-TX/RX-YY. Tally and GPI triggers, alarm panels, PLC interlocks, door and gate control and remote equipment status monitoring are the common jobs. Choose a bidirectional code wherever an acknowledgement or return trigger has to come back.
