Product Overview +

Bi-Directional CATV Mini-Node

Hybrid fiber-coax networks have to carry television downstream and cable modem traffic back upstream, and the point where fiber meets coax has to do both. The Thor F-MININODE-2RP-HP is a compact optical node that converts the downstream signal back to RF and also transmits a 5 to 45 MHz return path upstream on a separate optical port. It works as a wideband optical modem for bi-directional broadband in fiber to the building designs.

Receiver Behavior and Link Quality

Received optical power can range from -9 to +2 dBm on single-mode fiber between 1100 and 1600 nm, with optical return loss above 45 dB. An adjustable optical AGC holds RF output steady across that input window, so level does not have to be retrimmed as plant loss changes. Link performance is specified at C/N of 51 dB or better, with C/CTB and C/CSO both at 60 dB or better across the band.

RF Outputs, Band and Adjustment

The RF side covers 45 to 860 or 1003 MHz with in-band flatness within 0.75 dB and 75 ohm output impedance at a return loss of 16 dB or better. The two-output version is rated at 104 dBuV or more, while the single-output variant reaches 108 dBuV, both measured across the -9 to +2 dBm optical window. Electrically controlled equalization and attenuation each offer a 0 to 15 dB range for matching the coaxial plant.

Power, Temperature and Mounting

Power is either AC from 150 to 265 V or an external 12 V DC supply at 1 A, with consumption of 8 VA or less, so the node can be fed locally or from a plant power source. Operating temperature runs from -40 to 60 degrees C, which suits outdoor and unconditioned enclosures. The unit weighs about 1.8 lb and ships in a 204 by 172 by 64 mm carton, making pole, wall or cabinet mounting straightforward.

Versions and Management Option

Thor lists F-MININODE-2RP-HP with two high-power RF outputs at 45 dBmV each, the customized F-MININODE-2RP-B combining a high and a low power output, and F-MININODE-2RP at +35 dBmV per output for lower level needs. The H-NMS option adds a 10/100 Ethernet IP management interface for remote monitoring. Connect the optical port with SC/APC angle-polished connectors; flat PC terminations require a PC to SC/APC jumper.
