Product Overview +
Compact Endpoint Optical Receiver
Putting a full rack-mount receiver in every building is overkill when the site only needs a television feed. The Thor F-RF-RX-MN is a small optical receiver that turns CATV RF carried on fiber back into electrical RF on coax, pairing with directly modulated Thor RF optical transmitters. Where space and budget are limited, it provides the same endpoint function in a far smaller package than a rack unit.
Reception, AGC and Link Figures
The receiver works across 1310 to 1568 nm, covering both the 1310 and 1550 nm bands, with return loss above 55 dB. Optical automatic gain control keeps RF output steady as fiber loss varies between sites, and all working parameters are managed by a microprocessor. Link performance is quoted at CNR above 50 dB over 10 km of fiber, with CTB below -63 dB, CSO below -57 dB and SBC restraint above 17 dBm.
RF Band, Levels and Connectors
Work bandwidth is 45 to 862 MHz with flatness within 0.75 dB across the band and 75 ohm impedance at a return loss above 16 dB. The RF interface is F-type, or supplied to order where a site standardizes on something else. Transmit channel loading is quoted at PAL-D 60 channels or NTSC 80 channels. Network management runs over RJ45 and RS232, supporting browser access and SNMP where monitoring is required.
Power, Temperature and Splitting
Power is 90 to 265 V AC with an optional -48 V DC input between 30 and 60 V, and consumption stays under 50 W. Working temperature spans -5 to 65 degrees C with storage from -40 to 85 degrees C and humidity from 5 to 95 percent. One Thor transmitter can feed several of these receivers through an optical coupler, or a single receiver over a long single-mode run, depending on the optical budget available.
Where the Mini Receiver Fits
Feeding television to remote buildings on a campus, hotels, hospitals, compounds and MDUs from a central headend is the typical application, with each mini receiver dropping the lineup onto local coax for distribution to televisions. Thor lists the unit as F-RF-RX-MN. Use SC/APC angle-polished connectors on the optical port; fiber finished in flat PC connectors needs a PC to SC/APC jumper before the link is energized.
