Product Overview +

Optical Isolation for Secure Sites

Some facilities want television service without any path back out of the building. The Thor F-RF-BR is an RF fiber break that converts CATV RF to light, sends it over fiber and converts it back, while blocking any signal in the return direction. The result is a one-way feed with physical isolation, which is why it appears in government, defense and other high-security environments that otherwise avoid external cable connections.

Laser Quality and Link Figures

The transmitter uses a 1310 nm laser with line width under 1 MHz FWHM, side mode suppression above 45 dB, extinction ratio above 20 dB and equivalent noise intensity below -160 dB/Hz. Output power is 2 mW with 4 or 6 mW optional. Link performance is quoted at CNR above 50 dB over 10 km of fiber, CTB below -63 dB and CSO below -57 dB, with working parameters managed by an internal microprocessor.

RF Interfaces and Optical Connectors

Work bandwidth is 45 to 862 MHz at an MGC input level of 19 to 21 dBmV, with 75 ohm input impedance, return loss above 16 dB and flatness within 0.75 dB across the band. The RF interface is F-type or supplied to order. Optical connections are SC/APC as standard with FC/APC optional, and optical return loss is above 55 dB. Transmit channel loading is quoted at PAL-D 60 channels or NTSC 80 channels.

Rack Build, Power and Climate

The kit comprises a 19-inch rack-mount transmitter, a portable optical receiver that restores RF for distribution, and SC/APC fiber jumpers to connect them. Power is 90 to 265 V AC with a -48 V DC option between 30 and 60 V, and consumption stays under 25 W. Working temperature is -5 to 65 degrees C with storage from -40 to 85 degrees C and humidity from 5 to 95 percent. Network management is optional.

Kit Versions and Typical Sites

F-RF-BR is the forward-only optical isolator kit for 45 to 870 MHz. F-RF-BR-B adds a return path for bidirectional use, and F-RF-BR-SAT handles CATV or satellite RF frequencies. Government and defense buildings, secure data centers, correctional facilities and research laboratories that need television with strict network separation are the usual sites. Choose the forward-only code where the security policy forbids any return path at all.
