Product Overview +
Standalone S2X Satellite Modulator
Transponder capacity is costly, which is why operators move to DVB-S2X. The H-DVB-S2X-MOD is a single rack unit standalone modulator compliant with EN 302 307-2 that takes transport streams from ASI or IP and produces a DVB-S, DVB-S2 or DVB-S2X carrier. Finer roll-off and modulation options let the same transponder carry more payload at a given link margin.
Coding Schemes and Scrambling
DVB-S uses QPSK with RS and convolutional coding; DVB-S2 adds 8PSK, 16APSK and 32APSK with BCH and LDPC; DVB-S2X extends that set with 8PSK-L, 16APSK-L and 32APSK-L. Roll-off factors are 0.2, 0.25 and 0.35 for the earlier standards and 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15 for S2X. Symbol rates reach 45 Msps, and BISS scrambling modes 0, 1 and E are supported.
Input Ports and RF Output
Four ASI inputs accept 188 or 204 byte packet transport streams, one acting as main with three as hot backups, alongside one IP input taking TS over UDP on a 100 Mbps RJ-45 port. Single frequency network output is MIP or IIP. A 10 MHz reference enters on BNC and leaves on the RF F connector, which tunes 950 to 2150 MHz in 10 kHz steps.
Management, Power and Size
Management is through SNMP and a web server NMS, so the modulator can be monitored alongside the rest of the uplink chain. The chassis measures 19 by 18 by 1.75 inches and weighs 9 lb. Power is 100-240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz with 25 W consumption. Operating temperature is 0 to 45 degrees C and storage runs from -20 to 80 degrees C.
Choosing L-Band or IF
Two models are published: H-DVB-S2X-MOD with 950 to 2100 MHz L-band RF output, and H-DVB-S2X-MOD-IF with 50 to 200 MHz IF output for chains that include an external upconverter. Teleports, fixed uplinks, SNG operations and contribution networks adopting DVB-S2X are the typical users. StreamPort Media quotes either version per project, with the carrier identification requirement taken into account.
