Compact SNG Encoder Modulator

ENG and SNG vehicles have little rack space and less time to set up. The H-AV-DVBS2 puts a hardware video encoder and a DVB-S2 modulator in one enclosure, so a program feed becomes a satellite carrier through a single device. The same unit is used in permanent uplink installations, where removing the interconnect between encoder and modulator is equally worthwhile.

Encoding and Channel Coding

Inputs accept SDI, HDMI, YPbPr or CVBS up to 1080p60. H.264 HD encoding runs at 0.8 to 19.5 Mbps and MPEG-2 HD at 1.5 to 19.5 Mbps. On the modulation side, DVB-S uses QPSK with RS outer coding and convolutional inner coding, while DVB-S2 adds 8PSK, 16APSK and 32APSK with BCH and LDPC coding. Symbol rate spans 0.5 to 45 Msps.

Audio, ASI and RF Connections

Audio encoding covers MPEG-1 Layer II, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AAC, AC3 Dolby and Dolby passthrough at 48 kHz, with bit rates from 64 to 320 kbps. A BNC ASI output delivers 1 to 60 Mbps and a BNC ASI input accepts 1 to 120 Mbps, selecting programs by PID. RF output covers 950 to 2150 MHz in 10 kHz steps at -10 to -41.5 dB, with optional MPTS over UDP.

Field Setup and Power

All settings are reachable from the front panel, which matters on location where a laptop may not be at hand. The chassis is 19 by 17 by 2 inches and weighs 9 pounds. Power is 100-240 VAC auto switching at about 20 W, and the operating range of 32 to 110 degrees F suits a vehicle in summer as readily as a conditioned equipment room.

Typical Uplink Applications
