One Platform, Swappable Input Cards

Facilities rarely standardize on a single video interface. The H-XX-DVBS2X is an integrated HD encoder and DVB-S/S2/S2X modulator whose encoding blade can be changed between SDI, HDMI, YPbPr, CVBS and AES sources, so the XX in the model name refers to the card fitted. One platform therefore covers several source types without a different chassis for each one.

Encoding and Carrier Generation

Video up to 1080p60 is encoded as MPEG-2 HD at 1.5 to 19.5 Mbps or H.264 HD at 0.8 to 19.5 Mbps. The resulting stream is modulated to DVB-S with QPSK, DVB-S2 with up to 32APSK, or DVB-S2X with the additional linear constellations, using BCH and LDPC coding at symbol rates to 45 Msps. RF carrier ID is supported as required for uplink identification.

Audio, ASI and Output Options

Audio encoding covers MPEG-1 Layer II, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AAC, AC3 Dolby and Dolby passthrough at 48 kHz with bit rates from 64 to 320 kbps. The ASI input accepts 1 to 120 Mbps and selects programs by PID for pass-through or muxing with the encoded program, while the ASI output runs 1 to 60 Mbps. RF output covers 950 to 2150 MHz at -10 to -41.5 dB.

Enclosure and Operating Conditions

The chassis is 19 by 17 by 2 inches and weighs 9 pounds, fitting a standard rack in a teleport, a flyaway case or an SNG vehicle. Power input is 100-240 VAC auto switching drawing about 20 W. Operating temperature is 32 to 110 degrees F, which allows installation in vehicles and temporary facilities without extra cooling provision.

Specifying Input Cards and RF

RF versions are H-XX-DVBS2X with 950 to 2100 MHz L-band output and H-XX-DVBS2X-IF with 50 to 200 MHz IF. Input configurations include H-1SDI-DVBS2X with one HD/SD-SDI input and H-2SDI-DVBS2X with two, and further cards cover HDMI and analog sources. SNG, fixed uplinks and teleport contribution are typical; StreamPort Media quotes the card set and RF version per project.
