Encoder and Modulator In One

Getting a single program to satellite usually takes an encoder, a multiplexer and a modulator in series. The H-1SDI-DVBS2 collapses that chain into one box: an SDI input is encoded and modulated into a DVB-S or DVB-S2 carrier ready for the uplink chain. Uplink sites, SNG vehicles and contribution feeds gain rack space and lose two sets of interconnecting cables.

Encoding Formats and Rates

Video arrives as SDI, HDMI, YPbPr or CVBS up to 1080p60, with resolutions including 1280x720p and 1920x1080i at 60, 59.94 and 50 Hz. Encoding is MPEG-2 HD at 1.5 to 19.5 Mbps or H.264 HD at 0.8 to 19.5 Mbps. Audio can be MPEG-1 Layer II, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 AAC, AC3 Dolby or Dolby passthrough, sampled at 48 kHz with bit rates from 64 to 320 kbps.

RF, ASI and IP Ports

The RF output tunes across 950 to 2150 MHz in 10 kHz steps, with an output level adjustable between -10 and -41.5 dB. A BNC ASI output runs 1 to 60 Mbps, and a BNC ASI input accepts 1 to 120 Mbps, with programs selected by PID and muxed to all outputs. An optional IPTV output carries MPTS over UDP for unicast or multicast delivery.

Chassis, Power and Climate

The unit measures 19 by 17 by 2 inches and weighs 9 pounds, mounting in a standard rack at an uplink site or inside a vehicle. Power input is 100-240 VAC auto switching at about 20 W, so it can be run from a generator or inverter without changing supplies. Operating temperature is 32 to 110 degrees F, which covers machine rooms and truck installations.

Input Type and RF Version

Two output versions are listed: H-1SDI-DVBS with 950 to 2100 MHz L-band output, and H-1SDI-DVBS-IF with 50 to 200 MHz IF output for systems using an external upconverter. HDMI and composite input models, H-1HDMI-DVBS and H-1CVBS-DVBS, offer the same choice.
