Product Overview +
Optical to RF Conversion
Every RF over fiber link needs something at the far end to put the signal back on coax. The Thor F-RF-RX-MN-2 is that endpoint: it receives an optically modulated RF signal from a CATV optical transmitter and converts it back into standard electrical RF, with coaxial output for local distribution. QAM, ATSC, DVB-T and analog NTSC or PAL channels are all delivered as they were launched.
Optical Window and Output Levels
The receiver operates from 1100 to 1700 nm on single-mode fiber, accepting input from 0 dBm down to about -15 dBm for digital channels or -10 dBm for analog. Output level is 65 to 75 dBuV at -6 dBm optical input, rising to 70 to 80 dBuV at -2 dBm. Responsivity is 0.9 A/W or better at 1550 nm and optical return loss is 55 dB or better, with power consumption of around 0.6 W.
RF Band, Flatness and Connector
RF output covers 45 MHz to 1 GHz at 75 ohm impedance on an F female connector, with flatness within 1 dB, slope of 5 dB plus or minus 2 dB and return loss of 16 dB. CTB and CSO are both 65 dB or better and MER is quoted at 38, measured on a 60-channel PAL-D load at -6 dBm input through one EDFA over 25 km. Noise figure is 47.5 dB under those conditions.
Housing, Power and Indication
The unit is built in a stainless metal housing with a wall-mount flange, so it fixes directly to a wall in a riser or cupboard rather than needing a shelf. The power adapter accepts 90 to 250 V AC at 50 to 60 Hz. An alarm LED shows green when received power is in range, around -6 to 0 dBm, and red when it falls below -8 dBm or is lost, which makes commissioning quick.
Pairing and Related Transmitters
Thor recommends pairing this receiver with the matching F-RF-TX-MN-2 transmitter. Other compatible units include the F-RF-TX-MN-2mW mini transmitter and the F-RF-1310-TX-4mW, F-RF-1310-TX-8mW and F-RF-1310-TX-16mW models for longer links or larger split counts. FTTH drops, villas, apartments, hotel rooms and small buildings fed from a central headend are the usual positions, and transmitter and receiver can be quoted together as a link.
