Product Overview +
USB Devices Far From Host
USB cabling runs out of reach after a few meters, which is a problem when the computer has to stay in a locked rack and the peripherals cannot. The F-4USB-TX/RX-SFP is a transmitter and receiver kit that extends USB connections over fiber instead. An integrated four-port hub at the remote end accepts up to four devices, so no additional hub is needed out in the field.
Hardware Extension Without Drivers
Extension is handled entirely in hardware, so there is no driver to install and the kit works with any operating system that already supports the attached peripheral. Plug and play behavior is preserved for low, full and high-speed devices, including cameras, printers, scanners, storage drives, touch screens, keyboards and mice. Signaling on this model runs at up to 1.25 Gbps across the fiber link.
Optical Link and Port Layout
A single fiber carries traffic in both directions through SFP modules fitted with LC connectors, operating at 1310 and 1550 nm. Single-mode fiber supports runs up to 10 km, while multimode is limited to short distances under roughly 250 m. One unit connects to the PC and the other presents the four USB device ports, each able to supply up to 500 mA to the attached peripheral.
Case, Power and Environment
Both units use black aluminum enclosures. The sender accepts 5 to 12 V DC and consumes under 20 W, while the receiver is powered over the USB cable itself and draws under 5 W, so no external adapter is required at that end. Working temperature spans -20 to 75 degrees C, storage runs from -40 to 85 degrees C, and humidity is rated to 95 percent non-condensing.
Choosing the Correct USB Version
Control rooms, medical systems, government offices, industrial plants and security installations are the usual settings. Two models exist and they are not interchangeable: F-4USB-TX/RX-SFP handles USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 and does not support USB 3.0 devices, while F-4USB-TX/RX-SFP-3.0 handles USB 3.0 and 3.2 only and is not backward compatible. StreamPort Media can confirm which kit matches your peripherals before shipment.
