Product Overview +
Remote Antennas for Wireless Microphones
Wireless microphone receivers usually live in a rack, while the antennas need to be out where the performers are. Long coaxial antenna runs lose signal exactly where sensitivity matters most. The Thor F-RF-AUDIO-TxRx converts antenna RF to light, carries it over single-mode fiber and restores it at the receiver rack, so broadcast crews, stadiums and live event teams can place antennas for coverage rather than for cable length.
Bands, Gain and Signal Handling
The system covers 516 to 698 MHz and 925 to 937.5 MHz, which spans the usual professional wireless microphone, IF and RF allocations. It provides 15 dB of RF gain to offset link and cable loss between the antenna position and the rack. Maximum RF input is -20 dBm, so an active antenna or a strong nearby transmitter should be checked against that limit before the link is built.
RF and Optical Connections
RF connections are BNC female at 50 ohm impedance, matching standard antenna feeders rather than the 75 ohm video world. The optical interface uses FC/APC connectors with 3 dBm output at 1310 nm on single-mode fiber, giving a working reach beyond 1 km, which is more than enough to put an antenna at the far side of a stadium bowl or on a roof above a control room.
Size, Weight and Power
The transmitter measures 51 by 123 by 21.5 mm and weighs 241 g, while the receiver is 51 by 113 by 21.5 mm at 222 g, so each unit straps to an antenna pole or sits on a rack shelf without mounting hardware. Power is 5 V at 250 mA over USB-C, which can come from a battery pack in the field or a USB supply in the rack, simplifying temporary installations.
Kit Contents and Applications
The part number F-RF-AUDIO-TxRx is supplied as a transmitter and receiver kit, configured as a matched pair. Stadium and arena microphone coverage, outside broadcast setups, theaters, houses of worship and conference venues with centrally racked receivers are the typical uses. Confirm the microphone frequency plan against the supported bands before ordering, since frequencies outside those ranges will not be carried by this version.
