Mediaset deploys Kairos to support Live IP Workflows
Italy’s largest commercial broadcaster Mediaset has deployed Panasonic KAIROS, the next generation live production platform, to support live IP workflows at its Light Studio facility, in Milan. As the content creation industry moves to IP production, the KAIROS Core 1000 future-proofs the studio with the ability to support legacy SDI while seamlessly integrating into the facility’s ST2110 infrastructure.
As one of the broadcasters globally leading this migration to IP, Mediaset is now in the advanced stages of implementing a plan for the total migration of all its studios and various campuses in Rome, Segrate and Cologno Monzese, to the ST2110 standard.
System integrator, Professional Show, has installed two KAIROS AT-KC1000 systems, one for everyday use and one for back-up, as well as upgrading the facility’s automated newsroom studio with five Panasonic AW-UE150 PTZ cameras, a Tuning Tecnopoint dolly and column system and a Panasonic AW-RP150 remote camera controller.
“Among the strengths that KAIROS offers is the possibility to transition to IP technology, without compromising on quality, while at the same time investing in a scalable platform that can handle future content production demands - all from a single supplier with a pedigree of innovative and quality broadcasting solutions,” said Salvatore Palillo, Sales Manager at Broadcast & Pro AV in Italy. “During this revolutionary period for the content production sector, KAIROS is the ideal solution - even for those regional production and TV facilities that do not have large budgets but need an efficient, stable, reliable and easily expandable solution for future developments.”
Creative freedom
The KAIROS next generation live production platform gives AV professionals creative freedom by supporting seamless broadcasting on numerous devices and feeds, in any source, format, scale, screen and mix, without loss of quality. More than a switcher, the platform can also perform routing and screen management functions. With multiple screen layouts built through one simple user interface, KAIROS helps AV professionals improve live and virtual productions.
“The introduction of KAIROS allows Mediaset to take full advantage of its IP production, providing flexibility and future-proofing the transition to a flexible, software-defined infrastructure that is required by broadcasters,” said Mauro Cassanmagnago pictured, Director of Broadcast Technology at Mediaset. “Initial feedback on the system has been incredibly positive with our team and operators saying KAIROS is powerful, fast and easy to use.”
Cassanmagnago also highlighted the easy integration of KAIROS with the entire Mediaset IP infrastructure and third-party applications, as well as the speed of Panasonic's response to specific requests for system customisation.
The KAIROS system soon promises to be even more powerful with the introduction of Agile I/O, a new software feature available in early 2022. A free upgrade, Agile I/O will provide AV professionals with additional input and output capacity to create larger and more complex productions. The new software upgrade enables KAIROS to use the 100Gb ST 2110 network and other KAIROS Core inputs and outputs more efficiently with better management of network bandwidth - providing users with additional sources for HD and 4K content and access to more connected sources in the multi-view.
